Parkside Amenities Improvement Plan
At the March 2008 meeting of the Parkside HOA, the board finalized plans which were reviewed and approved, for a number of upgrades. Parkside is a mature community, established circa 1995. With the exception of the addition of a viewing platform and bench and re establishing of the Nature trail along the wetlands, no upgrades or improvements have been made to the amenities or common areas. Over the last few years, the association has been reserving some funds for such upgrades and improvements to our amenities. We have also been successful in actively pursuing long standing debts owed to Parkside by certain homeowners. In addition, we petitioned and received a grant from the Eagles Landing Association to help in this effort. All of which will allow us to proceed with the following:
1) Parkside Community House– annex/addition to the Pool Pavilion. Like many communities, a community house is an expected amenity and the need for a larger space to house materials and supplies for the common areas, along with the need for a meeting space has been increased and options have been researched. Having an indoor meeting space will save us a monthly rental fee. This will be a nice addition for residents who want to host a reserved event at the pool. This expansion will provide additional seating area. The plan has been developed at no cost by board member Vitos St. Rose. (Plan and description attached under pool)
This represents and important and significant upgrade to Parkside and will have a very positive impact on the desirability of Parkside as a homeowner community, as it will be noticed upon entering or leaving Parkside.
This will be built in phases: The initial phases Foundation platform completed April 08
The secure exterior structure will be built after the pool season in October 09
2) Playground area move and Picnic area upgrade – In order to accommodate the expansion/ addition, the playground has been moved to the middle of the picnic area. Board volunteers have removed the black chain link fence, which was less than ideal. A new swing set, which will accommodate older children, will be added and will anchor the new area in the middle of the current picnic area. The picnic area has been expanded back into the wooded area with 2 new picnic tables. This has been cleared by board volunteers of brush (but not trees).
This provides a much more appealing entrance area with the expanded picnic area extending into the shaded wooded area with an open view of the pond and an improved footprint layout for the playground. The playground, previously hidden from view is now open and appealing and the utility are has been screend with a wooden fence. This has a positive impact on the desirability of Parkside as homeowner community, noticeable upon an initial drive through.
3) Landscape plan upgrade – The combined impact of the drought, periodic lapses in landscaping care and 18 yrs have deteriorated the landscaping around Parkside’s common areas. After much input from the community and consultation with several companies, our Landscape chair, Sandy Reichert, has developed an extensive plan to upgrade the pool area and its entrances. The entrance has been planted with drought resistent roses and evergreen spruce.
a. This plan also addresses a redesign/upgrade to McGee Park , which will be better identified with a New sign similar to the ones marking the Nature trail. (This plan available for review – Sandy Reichert)
These improvements have been under discussion at our board meetings over the last 2 years. They will be a noticeable improvement and upgrade.
Parkside’s board has worked hard to recruit volunteers (primarily board members who have contributed to this effort and no cost. Example:
Utility area has been screened with fencing – This area adjacent to the picnic area and near our entrance has long been considered a detraction. Thanks to negotiation by Bill Busche, AT&T has provided and installed the fencing at NO COST TO PARKSIDE.
